Sewanee is an artistic incubator where talented musicians work closely with renowned artist-faculty in an intensive yet supportive environment. It is an inclusive community designed to offer students the chance to learn and grow together with wonderful colleagues from across the world. An international festival, we welcome students from across the country and all 50 states to the location each summer.

In residence on the bucolic campus of the University of the South, located in Sewanee, TN. It is one of the nation’s premier liberal arts colleges. Over 13,000 acres of hiking, biking, and breathtaking mountain views inspire the artist in everyone.

The harp program accepts 4 to 6 high school to college students ranging in ages 14 to 24.  Days are spent rehearsing between the two orchestras in the morning for concerts on the weekend.  Each concert features separate repertoire and different conductors over the four weeks.

SEWANEE SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Since harp doesn’t always play every piece in the program, each student is given copies of the harp piece for EACH orchestra, even if they’re not involved.  As the only harp faculty, I make sure the students are very prepared for each rehearsal and foster an environment that stresses accountability, yet still supportive of each other’s success.

The afternoons are filled with harp studio classes, lessons, orchestra prep or harp ensemble or chamber rehearsal.  We spend about 2 – 3 hours every day together and I can honestly say that our time is productive, helpful and inspiring.  Most of them don’t want to leave after we’re done. In addition to harp activities, I bring several fishing rods and take the studio fishing or hiking throughout the month.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

If interested, audition materials are:

Rimsky Korsakov – Capriccio Espagnol cadenza
